She began designing in 1971, along with her partner Malcolm McLaren, they opened a rock style store when London was at the forefront of cultural trends.
With the rise of punk, in 1976, Vivienne Westwood brings the brand on the front of the stage. The group "The Sex Pistols" was dressed in Westwood during their first concert. In 1983 the designer decides to stand on her own and stop her collaboration with Malcolm McLaren.
In 1989 she won the Best Designer of the Year. In 1990 the collection "Portrait" was a turning point for the home. Indeed, Vivienne Westwood selects each item from her collection with the most meticulous care in the manner of an impressionist painting.
The collection is also more feminine.
In 1996, she made all the costumes for the opera "The Three Penny Opera". She then launched perfumes. The year 2000 marks the arrival of her first perfume "Boudoir" followed by "Libertine" and of "Anglomania" in 2005.
In 2008, she collaborated with Melissa, the Brazilian designer, to create a line of recycled PVC shoes.
In 1993 Vivienne Westwood married Andreas Kronthaler whom she met whilst teaching in Vienna. She remains married to him today and have achieved and created some extremely influential fashion over the years together.
Andreas Kronthaler mixes Tradition and modernity. He is the creative strength and the inspiration of the fashion house.
