About the Brand
Avant-garde and nonconformist, influenced by Baroque and Gothic art, the unique style and brand identity of Alexander McQueen creates a nugget in the world of fashion. Founded by Lee Alexander McQueen, the talented British designer trained at St Martins School of Art in London, the Alexander McQueen brand is intimately linked to its designer. Extravagant, sensitive, nonconformist, dark and endearing, the style of the designer trained at Givenchy, has quickly made for a creator of extraordinary and applauded talent recognized by all. After the premature death of Lee Alexander McQueen in 2010, his right arm Sarah Burton takes over the artistic direction. True to the legacy of the designer, she writes a new page in the history of the brand.
Also trained at the prestigious St. Martins School of Art in London, Sarah Burton quickly became Creative Director for Alexander McQueen, with whom she worked closely for 14 years. Fascinated by the know-how and expertise of artisans, its collections show the heritage of the brand to which she adds her expertise, her taste for embroidery and ornaments, and both a more feminine sensibility and a dark romantic allure.
Autumn/Winter 2016-17 Collection
Inspired by the Victorian style dear to the brand, but also a real tribute to the silk weavers from Spitafields in the 17th century, who imported their French skills while fleeing persecution against the Protestants, this collection is an ode to expertise. Gentle, refined details, lace and embroidery, romantic silhouettes are adorned with flowers and delicate ruffles. Sumptuous, this rich and eclectic collection is based on the subtle blend of taffeta and silver metal accessories, harnesses hugging the body and sculptural shoes.
