Maison Margiela

For this Fall-Winter 2017, John Galliano plays with the subversive universe of Martin Margiela and a Japanese futurism. With soft touches or in a very executed manner, the designer transports us to universe of mixed genres. Perfectly interpreting the codes of the brand, such as white and trompe l'oeil, the pieces are refined and quirky. The French elegance meets the lines and colors of a modern Japan. The collection creates a future classic leather goods piece from the brand, the 5AC bag.

"John Galliano grew up in England and studied fashion design at the prestigious Central Saint Martins School in London. Meanwhile, he worked as a dresser at the National Theatre and developed an attraction to theatricality that he then used to showcase his work. In 1984, soon after he graduated, he launched his eponymous label and in 1987 obtained the prize of the British designer of the year. He moved to Paris in 1990 to present his collection. He gradually found clientele from celebrities such as Madonna. In 1995, Bernard Arnault was named the creative director at Givenchy and then Christian Dior in 1996, as the successor of Gianfranco Ferre. His first collection inaugurated the 50 year anniversary of the brand. In addition to his artistic features, John Galliano became head of the whole image of the brand in 1999 and gave it new life. Propelled to the rank of genius, he creates an unexpected theme for each collection. His career at Christian Dior lasted 14 years. Meanwhile, John Galliano continued to create to his name and in 1993 opened his shop on rue Saint Honoré in Paris. He joined Maison Margiela in 2014 as artistic director. "

Maison Margiela is a French fashion house founded in Paris in 1988 by the Belgian designer Martin Margiela. Since its creation, the brand upsets the microcosm of fashion. The universe is both masculine and feminine, sometimes confusing the genres, but it is also often described as conceptual and enigmatic, mysterious and iconoclastic. A singular elegance recognized today at an international level. In July 2002, the brand was bought by Renzo Rosso, the founder of the Diesel group. Martin Margiela retained his place in the artistic direction for 7 years and then left the brand in 2009. Since 2014, the brand has been building momentum with the appointment of the designer John Galliano as Artistic Director . A new aesthetic that reveals a poetic vision and reinvents Margiela brand codes.
