Repetto

For its Fall/Winter 2017-18 collection, the Repetto brand presented a line of both new designs and proven successes. Newbies include the Gavotte low boots, the Georges Chelsea boots, and the 22’, a small bucket bag that will embellish your daytime and evening outfits. But the French label also bet on its classics with the Cinderella flats, edited in graffiti and soft sequined variations this season. No doubt they will be a great success. Discover Repetto shoes and Repetto bags on the MONNIER Frères website.

Advised by her son Roland Petit, who was a young dancer at the time, Rose Repetto created her first ballet shoes in 1947. She was a gifted seamstress who imagined revolutionary pointes with leather soles stitched inside out: the “stitch and return” process. A technique offering softer and more comfortable ballet shoes. Following the ballet shoe success, the brand quickly created new everyday designs thanks to Brigitte Bardot. In 1956, the actress asked Rose Repetto for day-to-day ballerina flats, the Cinderella, which she wore in the movie “And God created Woman”. In 1959, given her label’s growing success, Rose Repetto opened her first store at 22 rue de la Paix in Paris, and started supplying many ballet dancers such as Maurice Béjart, Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Barychnikov, Carolyn Carlson, the Kirov and the Folies Bergères artists. In 1967, production was established in the French Dordogne region, where pointe shoes and ballerina flats are still manufactured nowadays. In 2000, the Parisian label started collaborations with other fashion brands: Issey Miyake that year, then Yohji Yamamoto in 2002 and Comme des Garçons in 2004. Repetto then strengthened its position as a shoe manufacturer and became a reference for chic and urban flats. Following the worldwide success of their shoes, in 2011, Repetto developed a leather goods line, then a women’s ready-to-wear collection in 2012, and a perfume in 2013.

Rose Repetto was born in Milan in 1907 and created the Repetto brand in 1947 in Paris. First a bistrotière, she opened her studio near the Opera de Paris. Her ballet shoe expertise guaranteed comfort and exceptional quality thanks to the “stitch and return” technique she invented. Avant-garde, the footwear and leather goods brand has always combined tradition and innovation with excellence, offering cutting-edge everlasting designs. The legacy of her ancestral know-how has made the label a timeless, feminine and prestigious reference that women love. Creation is now managed by a design studio.
