Alexander Wang

About the brand

Alexander Wang studied fashion at Parsons in New York. Following his enriching experiences collaborating with Vogue, Marc Jacobs and Derek Lam, he decided to launch his self-titled label in 2006.

The new designer seduces fashionistas and metropolitan women alike with the urban-grunge style of his creations. His pieces quickly lures the exacting female with masculine cuts and untraditional looks. Even though the designer uses color in his creations: orange, red, purple and turquoise – “They want color? They’ll get color!” Alexander Wang – the dominate hue is still black.

In its first two years, the brand managed to establish itself worldwide by exponentially increasing its sales outlets. Wang has been quickly idolized by fashionistas around the world who find his creations bold and his style unique.

Alexander Wang has won the admiration of fashion professionals as well. In 2009, he was awarded a prize by the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) and Vogue.

Alexander Wang moved to New York when he was 18 with only one goal in mind: to study fashion. He enrolled in the prestigious Parsons The New School of Design where, most notably, he collaborated with Marc Jacobs and Vogue. Wang left Parsons during his second year of school to launch his first collection. His eponymous label launched in 2006 in San Francisco, and he quickly became THE designer to follow.

Discrete, hardworking and wise, the designer’s creations embody a dichotomy of “crazy chic”. Wang has developed a cool, urban, sleek and quirky style inspired by a harmonizing of the 90s, French chic and grunge.

In 2008, Alexander Wang received an award from the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) and Vogue US for the women’s fashion category along with a $200,000 cash prize to finance his future collections and grow his brand.

Spring Summer 2014 Collection

The Spring / Summer 2014 collection is under censorship, youth culture and humour. Alexander Wang achieves a more playful and summery collection, with powdered and sober tones. We find footprints of duality, which reflects the progression of the wise and naive male fashion, in the explicit expression of seduction. During his fashion show in New York, he played on the coexistence between restriction and freedom, censorship and rebellion.
